University of San Diego Professor and co-author of Feasting and Fasting: The History and Ethics of Jewish Food (Columbia University Press 2020), Dr. Aaron Gross, will offer a short presentation on the exciting opportunities to express our values and transform our society by changing the way we eat and farm. For many people and many communities working to change our food system is one of the most rewarding and politically effective ways to express our values. In the Jewish context, engaging food ethics can simultaneously connect us to the depths of the tradition and to urgent political challenges like climate change and anti-racism, which are not usually associated with food.

Aaron Gross, PhD is a Professor in the Theology and Religious Studies Department of the University of San Diego specializing in Jewish Studies, the Founder and CEO of Farm Forward, a Past President of the Society of Jewish Ethics, and Chair of University of San Diego’s new Food Studies Initiative.
