Discussion with Chief Shelley Zimmerman, former Chief of Police, San Diego

$10.00 Event Fee benefiting the Challenged Athletics Foundation of SD

Shelley Zimmerman, San Diego’s former Chief of Police retired in 2018 after 35 years with the Police Department and joined National University focusing on public safety and leadership. She believes in community policing and that public safety is a shared responsibility. During her tenure, our overall crime rate fell to it’s lowest level in 49 years. She instituted new policies and equipment. San Diego was the largest city to begin use body worn cameras at the time along with gunshot detection sensors.

She will talk about the current challenges and opportunities for police officers. She will also address the impact of social media and what is meant by “defunding the police”.

Chief Zimmerman is from Cleveland, Ohio, a graduate of the Ohio State University and the FBI National Academy. She is an avid sports fan and often participates in athletic charity fundraisers.

The registration fee of $ 10.00 will go to the Challenged Athletes Foundation of San Diego which is an organization “inspiring athletes with physical challenges through sports.
