From the New Jew to the New Israeli – Israeli Jewish Identity as it has evolved.
How do we understand the relationship between the American Jewish community – also
in a different place in 2020 since 1948 – and Israel?
The evolving identity of the State of Israel and its citizens — from the socialization in the early generations and the creation of the ‘New Jew’ to the individualism of the New Millennium. How and why have these processes and other influencing factors – created the rift lines and tensions we experience in Israeli society? How does this relate to the special relationship between the American Jewish community and Israel? We will relate to the research of Rosner and Fuchs, “#Israeli Judaism” and the recent book by Daniel Gordis, “We Stand Divided”. And finally, how does this direct or influence our thinking about Jewish identity and Israel education in the diaspora?
