“Come into holy gates filled with thanks,
Into the divine courts brimming with praise.”
Inspiration
I’ve always loved Shabbat! Growing up, my parents would make it so special. Friday nights we’d gather around the table, after a week of sports and work and school, and sing our hearts out. And every Saturday morning, I’d wake up to a bag of candy next to my bed that my mom had prepared the night before for my Shabbat treat. It was magical.
As I began to work on Friday nights in various synagogues throughout my career, Shabbat lost a little of its magic. It was filled with cues to remember and choir members to direct. A schedule to keep to and a “show to put on.” It’s not what I had signed up for.
And then JCo… I LOVE Shabbat at JCo. No matter what kind of week I’ve had, I always know that come Shabbat, all will be washed away by the love and connectedness we have in our community. Shabbat at JCo is magical. And during quarantine, it is that much more special and important for me, as I know it is for many of you. Friday morning hits and my heart sings “tonight we’ll all be together!”
Tonight I walk into the holy gates with thanks. Thanks to our community, thanks to God, thanks for the gift of Shabbat.
I love you all and am so grateful for you.
